Unemployment is a bitch!

I have been living a tough life since 1 July 2011. This was the day I left my job as a mortgage adviser to start living the life of an unfortunate unemployed person.

Firstly, the summer of 2011 was not that good. I remember a friend visiting and it was so windy on the beach we had to go to the bar. So there we were, drinking a bottle of green wine from Quinta de Gomariz. And those who don’t know, the wind doesn’t prevent you from tanning!!! So not only was I forced off the beach, I still had to put sunscreen all over to avoid burning.

Then came winter! I remember my dad calling to suggest I visit him in Qatar. Oh god, Lisbon is such a lovely place and after a windy sandstorm summer I had finally got all the sand out of my hair. Now I was being forced to go to Qatar, a place I had never been to but I knew there would be a lot of sand. I knew. So I pleased daddy and went there with Ebba. Five weeks!! I really struggled to look for jobs during this time.

So now a year later it’s summer again. This year it’s great weather. But then UEFA decides to steal all the attention away from me and my problems. How rude!

So, I have been forced away from my home out to the bars to watch football with friends. And, listen to this, DRINK BEER!!! No joke! With beer comes football. Sorry, with football comes beer.

And as I am unemployed people visit me all the time. So I am forced to holiday with all these people all the time. Ok, they are my friends but everyone knows that a holiday is tiring too with all those activities. I’m now staying in a hotel with a friend and have to get ready for dinner tonight in Cascais. I was really hoping for a meal in Lisbon but there you go.

Life as unemployed in Portugal. I will try to live with it another three months.
