Cos I am definitely worth it.
I am a very relaxed, down to earth and patient young lady
…err, never mind…
Before I came to Brazil I had a job lined up, however it didn’t quite work out so I left. I am now doing some random english teaching to get my butt out of the apartment and have a reason to shower other than my husbands continuous begging. It is alright, but it isn’t what I want to do. I want a full-time job at a company where I can learn and hopefully grow a career. Every day there are hundreds of new jobs posted on different job sites, most are not jobs I am qualified to apply for because they either request something I don’t have, or they want you to be a student in your last year so they can mould you the way they want and catch a good worker before they are ruined with bad habits.
The excitement when I come across a job that I could apply for is crazy, my heart beat raises slightly and I can feel myself sitting up straight. The job title is ever so exciting: “Administrative Assistant”. I feel confident. I start imagining how I get the job and a month later show them how awesome I am and get promoted into something slightly more exciting like “Administrative Coordinator”. Eventually I will have made it to a position that I can actually feel challenged in, like within finance or maybe public relations/communications (always thought that job title sounded so cool, just spend the days chatting and relating with people, fun eh!). Then comes the benefits. I love when they write that they offer a salary. Oh gee, that’s so kind! But when it says they offer a “cesta básica” (literally basic basket”) as an extra benefit I tend to want to pull out. If the company has to offer me a basket full of the basics in a household (rice, flour etc) then the salary must be pretty shite. I want a career, not a survival paycheck. Although I might just have to start down there. All over again.
But like daddy said: “That’s what you get for choosing to do what you want, rather than sticking with what feels safe”.
By the way, for all you PizzaHut lovers out there, they currently have a position open which pays a whooping R$650 (€250) per month gross, AND you get to eat lunch in-house! Whoaa.
Well I am not here to moan about salaries again, I am here to say:
I WANT A JOB!
I am so so bored. And looking for work is such hard work! Really! Worse is, it feels like nobody wants you!! I feel like screaming out loud that they are missing out:
“I promise you will like me, I am like a little poppy dog, I am a good girl, I do what you tell me to unless you ask me to think, then I will think and go and be good at that instead. I will not give you any problems, I am honest, I am hard-working, I am funny, I am kind, and I am ALWAYS on time no matter how last night ended.
COME ON, I’M YOUR MAN, I mean woman…. EMPLOY ME, you won’t regret it. Yes?
So yeah, job offers are accepted. Preferably at, say, Whirlpool, Cisco (my sister did well I see), Votorantim, Volvo, BV Financeira… yeah, these are all on the list of the best companies to work for in Brazil. I have actually been to one of Votorantim’s offices and they are so close to my house I would not even be late due to traffic. Hmm, might be a good sales point on my CV!
Love, CJ
